A wholistic and experiential learning cooperative for school age students including students with special needs or specific learning challenges.

What do we mean when we say a special needs student? A student who has learning challenges or development delays that are not met in the typical structures provided for growth, healing, and education.

We provide a wholistic healing and experiential learning cooperative for the whole person—head, heart, hands and body—inspired by Waldorf Education, Spatial Dynamics, Camphill Movement, Ruskin Mill Educational Trust, and optimal therapeutic and educational modalities.

This is a video about how our initiative began

Our approach contains several key elements:

  • Accepting each student as they are.
  • Rich academic work integrated with movement, and art.
  • Filling in development gaps and missed experiences.
  • Building bridges and developing capacities.
  • Mixing and matching curriculum materials to student need not age.
  • Optimal therapeutic modalities: yoga, massage, music, and Eurythmy.
  • Cultural immersion and studies.
  • Teenage student hosted monthly dinner club.
  • Individual focus within a healing group dynamic.
  • Parent education and community partnerships.

We offer students a rich academic experience in subjects including History, Geography, Science, Arithmetic, Biography, Drama, Music, Art, and Language Arts. We integrate our academic work with movement education, gardening, woodworking, crafts, cooking, and sewing. Each day begins with movement, singing, or poetry, and ends with painting, yoga, or massage.

Our classroom is home-based and includes kitchen, handwork, and woodwork areas, as well as ample space for both indoor and outdoor movement.

Class size is limited to 8 students depending on need. This insures high quality experiences and individual attention while minimizing distractions and stress.

FRR welcomes students with special needs or specific learning challenges and their families — as a part time supplement to independent or charter home school.

FRR has applied to be an approved vendor with South Sutter Charter School, Forest Charter School and Twin Ridges Home Study Charter. Private sessions, Enrichment programs, and 2012 Summer registration NOW OPEN

The river of life flows from one tributary, one phase of development, to the next in its own time, not according to age. Like you, a river is never stuck or stagnant and inherently knows what to do, where to go, and when to do it. We welcome you like a river – to gain strength, friendship and reach your potential.
