About

“The hands are particularly sensitive to perceiving and transmitting exceedingly sophisticated information to the brain.”
~ (Bensmaia et al, 2008)

“With the help of imaginative pictures, eurythmy movements and meaningful activity, the child’s will is encouraged to penetrate into the total movement system.”
~ Audrey E. McAllen

Our Guiding Principles

We recognize that there are multiple complex forces impacting every choice and movement that we make in life. There is not a single method, answer or modus operandi for responding to any given challenge or situation.

Flowing River Resources is guided by the following principles:

  • Every child is welcome. We support the child from one stage of development to the next regardless of chronological age.
  • Children are born with intrinsic value and needs. The onset of a disability does not diminish value or needs.
  • Every child requires support and opportunities to know they are growing toward their greatest potential.
  • Children are by nature social beings with imagination. Children with special needs are eager to belong, participate, cooperate and contribute to events that are filled with meaning. At Flowing River Children are valued, respected and listened to.
  • Children retain more when they are supported to participate actively in their learning.
  • Quality education encompasses a broad base of knowledge and experiences.
  • Pregnancy is a natural event; premature birth or other birth trauma is an unnatural event and the impact of that trauma upon the wellbeing of the family requires recognition and support.
  • Parents have the right and responsibility to be fully informed about the potential risks and benefits of medical interventions and educational options.
  • Our communities play a vital role in assisting children with special needs through social interactions that call for higher levels of function. Events that are filled (link to Friday Night Dinner Club event for contributors) with meaning reflect to the child, “I am cared for, I am growing and developing.”
