Movement Based Education, Practical Crafts and Gardening
We offer an integrated learning environment with a craft based curriculum. Our program includes body and brain integration through movement, spatial dynamics and practical craft-based education. A program strong in dynamic movement fosters integration of midlines; cognitive and neurological development and harmonious movement through the three planes of space. A curriculum rich in manipulation of materials, creativity, experimentation and design develops a more general capacity to function and work in other areas: competencies are “transferable” in a broad sense. Here the precise cognitive and physical experiences necessary for full intellectual development are fostered. Our goal is to inspire life long learning and invite our students to be practically minded and well connected.
Our movement will include games, yoga, spatial dynamics and certain aspects of dance and conductive education.
Our crafts will include green woodworking, felting, soap and oil making.
Our land will include biodynamic gardening and animal care.
Check back with us in September, 2010. We just located a new site in Fair Oaks, CA. It will take a couple of months to prepare our space and materials. We plan to begin with a part time program in the fall of 2010.

What is Conductive Education?
Conductive Education is an intensive, multi-disciplinary approach to education, training and development for individuals with cerebral palsy, spina bifida and other motor challenges. CE provides a structured emotional group dynamic very similar to the Chinese open clinic or group therapy. The children receive great benefit from participating with peers that are functioning at different levels. This is very different than traditional physical therapy, occupational therapy, drills or educational “pull-outs” where the child is working in isolation on a task that may not have any relevance to life. CE breaks therapeutic movements into tasks with specific aims that contribute to the health and well being of both the individual and the group. In our perspective, it’s a fantastic approach that seems to draw upon eastern and western healing and educational philosophies. Our program integrates games, music, movement and fun summer activities.
